Is Your Child At Risk For Chronic Back Pain?

More and more children are dealing with back pain, which leaves parents searching for solutions. Some experts believe that children in today’s society are not getting enough exercise, and this lack of activity is causing back pain for many of them. This is only partly accurate. Lack of exercise is a major contributor to back pain in children, but there are a few other factors.

More importantly, we need to address what kids are doing when they are not exercising. Children spend hours in a chair at school, then a few more hours in front of the TV and computer. Sitting for extended periods of time is not good for adults, let alone children whose bodies are still growing. Poor posture and lack of muscle use creates weak and tight muscles.

It is possible for children to complain of aches and pains as their bodies develop. However, chronic pain is most likely a warning sign that something may be wrong.

If your child is complaining about back pain, please consider the following factors;

Are they sitting too much?

Are they getting adequate exercise?

Is there diet full of nutritious foods?

Are they showing signs of low self esteem and depression?

Are they carrying excessive body weight?

Children that are overweight tend to have higher chances of chronic back pain. Additional weight in the mid section tends to place uneven pressure on the lower back. Chronic pain often comes with chronic inflammation. Foods that your children are eating can contribute to the amount of inflammation in their body. Processed foods, fast food and things like dairy can increase pain causing inflammation.

Please keep in mind that there is a direct correlation between the mind and body, and your child’s emotions can also impact the amount of pain they are experiencing. Depression affects millions of children all over the world. Be sure to communicate with your kids to be sure that they know that you are there to support them.

If you child’s pain persists, visit a doctor. Before you commit to any prescription pain drugs, please consider natural treatments as a way to address their pain.
