How Does Back Pain Affect The Elderly

There’s no doubt that we get wiser as we get older. If we only knew then what we know now, right? Unfortunately, other things happen to us as we get older and our bodies have a real way harsh way of showing it.

Back pain affects millions of people, from teens to mature adults. Obviously, the older you are the harder it can be to deal with back pain. Our cells and bones are aging, and let’s face it we just don’t rebound like we used to.

Dealing with Back Pain as an Elder

Elderly people have a very difficult time dealing with pain. There a lot of things you simply can not do anymore when you hit a certain point in your life. Of course, there are exceptions to the rule and we should all strive to be like the Jack Lalanes’ of the world. Chronic pain takes an emotional toll on elderly people, in addition to physical aspects of living with pain and loss of mobility.

As we age, our bones become weaker and we are more susceptible to things like Degenerative Disc Disease, herniated discs, spinal fractures, and arthritis. To some extent, there is not much one can do about it. It’s part of the aging process. On the other hand, far too many people wait till it’s too late to start thinking about their health. It is far more effective to take a proactive and preventative approach to aging. People well into their seventies have used the information and products of this website to get lasting relief.

Coping with Back Pain as We Age

There are certain things you can do to withstand effects of the aging process. One way is to maintain a healthy nutritious diet. This goes far beyond “eating right” and getting plenty of calcium. Most people are neglecting their body of essential vitamins and minerals, which in the end will contribute to more serious health issues. There are now sophisticated tests that will analyze which vitamins and minerals are lacking in your diet.

Another way to counteract aging is by the process of spinal decompression. This may or may not work for you specifically, especially if you have severe spinal issues. Spinal decompression enables gravity to create space between the vertebrae that has decreased over time. When you look at an elderly person you can see the effects of spinal compression as their shoulders round forward and their height begins to decrease.
