Back Pain in the Rib Area

Back pain is a problem that plagues many people. It comes in all forms and attacks all age groups. One very persistently painful area is the sufferer’s back in their rib area. When this, or any other pain, becomes constant, it is time to seek out medical advice. This is needed to rule out any serious diseases and disorders.

There are several causes for this type of pain in this particular location. A broken or cracked rib has the power to send a person into intense pain. At the very least, it will cause inflammation in sufferer’s cartilage found near the breastbone. Osteoporosis and pleurisy are also likely reasons for rib pain. In order to diagnose the problem, it is wise to have a medical professional check it out for you. The doctor may want to use an x ray in order to get a better view and verify any findings he or she may have already found. If the doctor discovers a cracked or broken rib, it is time to go to the hospital. Urgent surgery may be required.

Some pain in the rib area can seem to go on endlessly. Those with back problems should not choose to suffer. Anybody that has pain in their back that is close to the rib area should head to the closest doctor’s office if the pain keeps on. It is possible that an MRI or CT scan will be performed by the doctor. Further yet, the doctor should make sure that the pain is not caused by cancer, tumor on nerve damage.

Problems with cartilage can also cause pain in this area. In this instance, pain has the potential to radiate between the ribs, breastbone and arms. This pain can be so powerful that it rivals a heart attack. This condition may last for a very long span of time and, at times, be hard to manage.

Another cause of back pain in the rib area actually has to do with the stomach. When a constant pain strikes near the rib cage, it is sometimes necessary to call in a gastroenterology. These pains come with some very hard to miss symptoms. For example, there is a very distinct possibility that you cannot eat enough to feel satisfied. Your stomach may continue to growl even after a full meal.

There are several steps a doctor may take during the exam in order to diagnose the sufferer. For starters, blood should be drawn in order to test it for infections. Medical advice can also tell you if it’s a gastro, digestive or bowel disorder or maybe none of the above. The pain can get very intense. The sufferer may falsely feel that the he or she has a twisted bowel. In cases like this, it may be wise for you to go to the doctor for a colon check up.

Pregnant women are also very apt to suffer from pain in the rib area. The later the stage of pregnancy, the more likely there is to be back pain. Pregnant women will feel this pain the most where the breast meets the ribcage, making it harder to sleep and get much needed rest.
