Ways to Avoid Back Pain

All of us at one point in time have either experienced back pain or have known someone that has suffered from back pain. Although back pain can come about from many different conditions and injuries, take heart, there are ways to avoid back pain. Preventative care is key to preventing back pain before it starts. The following are just a few of the many ways to avoid back pain. Some of these may sound like common sense but you would be surprised how many people fail to follow these simple guidelines.

Ways to Avoid Back Pain

1. Maintain an active lifestyle

Although this may seem like common sense, it is surprising to see the amount of people who do not participate in daily exercise. Thirty minutes of exercise per day is sufficient to keep your body healthy. Walking, running, and bicycling amongst other exercises, are excellent ways to get the heart rate up and burn extra calories. Also doing “little” things like taking the stairs instead of the elevator, or walking to the local convenience store instead of driving, makes a world of difference in your health.

2. Listen to your body

If you begin to feel pain in your back, take note of it and don’t ignore it. Our bodies are programmed to let us know when something is out of balance. If you experience slight pain and it goes away quickly, it may just be a minor ache. However, if you experience pain for more than a week, there is most likely something wrong and you need to figure out what it is.

3. Educate and Empower Yourself

If you are suffering from back pain, educate yourself. Learn as much as you can about the type of back pain you are experiencing and all of the treatment options that are available to you. More often than not, most people suffering from back pain immediately run to their physician, who in turn send them on their way with a prescription for pain medications in hand. Remember, education is power. Learn as much as you can on your own so you can make confident, educated decisions.

4. Invest in Yourself

We as a society spend hundreds if not thousands a dollars every year on cell phones, gadgets, big screen televisions, Starbucks, and the list goes on and on and on. But when it comes to our own bodies, we are hesitant to invest in our own health. We eat whichever foods are on sale and buy the cheapest desk chair on the market. The Freedom Back for example, which costs just around forty dollars, allows you to sit comfortably in your chair while helping maintain proper posture. This is a simple and affordable way to avoid back pain.

4. Stretch, stretch, stretch!

We can not emphasize this enough. It is imperative to stretch every day to keep balance in the body. We all perform repetitious tasks everyday. Some of our muscles get stronger than others, while others become weak. So it is very important to stretch your muscles everyday. Following the above mentioned ways to avoid back pain will surely give you an edge by strengthening and protecting your body from future pain.
