If you are dealing with acute back pain, that is back pain that is pretty recent and hasn’t lasted for more than a few weeks, there are many things you can try at home to help alleviate your pain. First, as soon as you feel the onset of pain, apply an ice pack to the area. Ice will help control inflammation which can decrease pain symptoms. Any pharmacy store will carry ice packs for under $10 or you can make your own at home. You can fill a large plastic sandwich bag with ice, wrap a thin hand towel around it and apply it to the painful area of your back for 20 minutes. Remove the ice pack for 20 minutes then reapply for 20 minutes. Repeat this for up to 48-72 hours.

After you have used ice therapy and the 72 hour period is over, begin using heat therapy, even if your pain has disappeared. Heat therapy will penetrate deep into the muscles and tissues soothing and healing the injured area. Most likely than not, you probably have a traditional electric heating pad. While this provides some relief, this form of heat only penetrates the skin and doesn’t allow the heat to penetrate deep into the muscles.

We have tested many heating pads and have found the most successful one to be Far infrared heat.   This form of energy is able to pass through the skin, and enter deep down into your muscles and even the bone. Far infrared heat is very safe and you can use it every day. You can get far infrared heat from a Far infrared heating pad.
