Sciatica Injection

If you have ever felt a radiating pain down one or both of your legs, well then, you have experienced Sciatica first hand. While not a condition in itself, it is merely a symptom of a few various conditions. Having said that, if you are experiencing this type of pain, it is best to get checked out by your primary physician so you can get properly diagnosed.

There are many traditional treatments for sciatica, one being a Sciatica injection. Steroid injections have been used since the 1950’s to treat Sciatica and other back ailments. The goal of a sciatica injection is to bring pain relief. The steroid injection will reduce swelling and inflammation.

The procedure typically takes place in a physician’s office. The person will lie down on their stomach onto of a cushion while flexing the back. When the back is flexed this allows the spine to open which allows an easier access to the epidural area of the spine. A fluoroscopic device is used to help guide the physician to the appropriate area of the injection site.  A steroid medication is injected into the painful area of the back.

While Sciatica injections can bring relief, this oftentimes is only temporary, lasting from a week and sometimes up to a year. Also, steroids are a form of medication, and all medications can have negative side effects. Typically Sciatica injections are used in combination with other forms of treatment.

Sciatica injections are typically reserved for persistent and severe sciatica. But, there are natural alternatives for treating sciatica. In fact, you can watch a very simple stretch that can almost eliminate sciatica instantly. Keep in mind, this won’t cure Sciatica, but you will be on your way to treating the real cause of your pain.
