Back Spasm Relief

Muscle Spasms in the back are just a downright pain in the back! These involuntary painful muscle contractions can literally bring a grown man to his knees. And often times it seems that these back spasms come from out of nowhere. If you are experiencing a muscle spasm right now, all you are wanting is fast back spasm relief. Many people visit their doctors and even the emergency rooms every year with debilitating back spasm pain. More complicated back conditions such as a herniated disc can cause back spasms, but they are typically due to muscle strains and sprains and underuse of many muscles.

The first thing we suggest you do for relief from back spasms is to get ice on the area right away. Ice is a natural anti-inflammatory. Use an ice pack or a make shift ice pack by putting ice in a zip lock bag. The cold temperature will limit swelling and blood flow to the area which can increase pain. Apply the ice for twenty minutes to the area of the back which is being affected. Be sure to never put the ice pack directly on the skin, unless it is covered with fabric already. For starters, it will feel way too cold and it can literally “burn” your skin. Make sure to either wrap the ice pack in a towel, or place the ice pack over your article of clothing. After twenty minutes has passed, remove the ice pack for twenty minutes. Repeat this process for up to 48-72 hours.

Once the ice has done its job, you can now switch to heat. If you have an electric heating pad, this will do for now. However for optimal benefits, we recommend Far infrared heating pads which deliver the most deep penetrating heat to your muscles, ligaments & tendons. Far infrared heat is a form of energy that is 100% safe and it can be used every day if you choose.  Use the heating pad in the same fashion you did as the ice. The deep penetrating heat with begin to soothe and heal your aching muscles.

If after a few hours you are still in excruciating pain, it may be best to contact your primary healthcare provider to rule out anything serious. If the pain begins to subside after the use of ice therapy, be sure to relax and lay low for a few days. Your body needs rest as you don’t want to aggravate your back any more than it is.

Along with rest, heat therapy and ice therapy, anti inflammatory supplements and pain relief cream will be a beneficial addition to your back spasm relief treatment plan.
