After four months of utter hell from backpain caused by a “slipped disc” I did my self assessments and started the exercises. In the first week I started to feel a difference and after a month I was almost back to normal!
I visited my GP who prescribed very strong pain medication which hardly gave me any relief. I also found that physiotherapy and osteopathy made my condition worse. I consulted an Alexander Technique Therapist and had therapy – this also didn’t help. A visit to an orthopedic specialist confirmed my diagnosis of disc lesion. “With two weeks now of virtually-free pain, I feel I can write to you and thank you for your excellent programme that I have been following. On a scale of 1 – 10 in pain, I hovered between a 7 and an 8, and sometimes even a 9 when I could barely walk. Now, I would say on a very good day I’m a 1, more often a 2, but rarely as much as a 3. I am so grateful, as I had tried osteopathy, occasional pain killers when it was very bad, and massage, which at best only slightly relieved it for a very short time. So I told him about the dramatic pain reduction and he said, ‘ That’s marvellous.’ I explained about your programme and he didn’t even ask the name or anything. It just shows that some doctors still don’t believe in self-help or the alternative way to get better.
I hope this letter (which you can use) will encourage others who are only at the beginning stages. The main thing is to have faith in the programme. I really believed it would help me and it did!
